Around 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast woke up experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, bringing powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Destruction

Locals witnessed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to seven centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

At one point on Sunday, over 28k energy customers in Victoria were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where similar conditions led to significant health impacts in the area.
